Permaculture Skills Center is a local, community and land-based resource for education in permaculture. Our five acre Sebastopol location offers permaculture skills development to the public by utilizing ecological development models, carbon farming techniques, heirloom planting methods, sustainable construction practices, rain water harvesting, energy efficiency and independence, and more.
Our conveniently located Sonoma County site offers a unique opportunity to provide vocational training and education in permaculture skills. Students will get hands-on experience and actually participate in running real-world permaculture based businesses.
From sheering sheep, to running a tractor, to learning drip irrigation installation, our students will learn invaluable vocational skills that will have immediate and lasting impacts on their career and life goals. This ‘in the field’ training will offer a one-of-a-kind experience that will equip our students with the tools to become leaders in permaculture and sustainability practices.
We are also developing a robust business model that includes sale of agricultural products grown onsite and sales of other locally produced products, in conjunction with offering extensive education opportunities. Students themselves will participate in all functions of these businesses, and take with them the skills and real-world experience they need to start and run their own successful local, land and community-based projects.
Permaculture Skills Center’s value to our community goes beyond vocational training. The center is open to the public, and individuals and families are able to take self-guided tours of the facilities, learning about things such as crop rotation, rain-catchment systems, and organic composting. We work closely with other community organizations and offer after-hours and weekend courses for enthusiasts to come out to have fun, get their hands dirty, and learn about regenerative gardening practices.
